Richard Irvin FM (RIFM) has demonstrated a sustained commitment to community organisations across Ayrshire, driven in large part by the volunteer leadership of the Project, SHEQ and Technical Director, Steven Rawding
Based in Kilmarnock, Steven has worked closely with the rest of RIFM over the past six years to support Ayrshire Climbing Centre, a premier indoor climbing facility and registered charity. Steven has logged more than 4000 volunteer hours with the organisation and, with direct support from RIFM, has gained professional climbing and disability climbing qualifications. These skills have enabled his volunteer work to have a greater impact on communities throughout Ayrshire.
RIFM further supports Steven in his role as vice chair of Ayrshire Climbing Centre board. Each year, we provide free PAT (electrical) and water testing to the charity. Additionally, we directly fund outreach groups in Ayrshire by sponsoring climbing volumes, contributing £1000 annually for the past three years.
Free installation saves charity £5000
In December 2024, RIFM supplied labour free of charge to install and commission Ayrshire Climbing Centre’s new moon training board. This is a service that would have cost a private client approximately £5000. This support enabled the charity to allocate its funds to other priorities while benefiting from our staff’s volunteer hours.
Supporting homelessness and recovery across Ayrshire
Beyond Ayrshire Climbing Centre, RIFM supports two Ayrshire organisations: EACHa (a homelessness and recovery charity) and New Heights (a climbing charity that aids recovery through adventure activities). Steven serves as a trustee for all three charities, coordinating management and staff volunteer hours to maximise community impact. This activity aligns directly with RIFM’s company values, reflecting senior leaders’ commitment to meaningful local engagement.
During the contract term, RIFM will continue to support Ayrshire Climbing Centre, EACHa and New Heights through staff volunteer hours and applications for direct sponsorship. The company commits to a minimum financial contribution of £1000 per year, alongside an additional 50 staff volunteer hours beyond Steven’s current commitments.
